Sri Lanka: War heroes will never be betrayed – Sajith

New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa yesterday vowed that the soldiers who made sacrifices for the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland would not be betrayed at any cost.

He said that he was prepared to go to the extent of even facing the electric chair for the sake of the war heroes.

Speaking at a massive election rally in Wariyapola on Wednesday evening, Premadasa said: “I feel confident of impending victory at the forthcoming election when I see your faces. Wariyapola will be brought under a massive development drive during my tenure.” He said that he was prepared to take responsibility for the future of the people and the country .

“We will put in place a massive development mechanism covering the entire North Western province and it will be implemented by a special unit of the Presidential Secretariat,” he said Premadasa added that separate offices would be established in the Puttalam and Kurunegala districts to daily monitor the development activities taking place in the province. “The “Sath Koralaya” will be turned into a “Bath Koralaya” by developing irrigation schemes in the province under a Wew Udawa programme.”

He said that he would relieve the people of massive tax burdens after being elected to the Presidency. “The carbon tax will be scrapped. I love the environment very much but the tax burden on the people is intolerable,” he said.

“There are two main candidates in the election contest. One of them is advertising to portray to the world that he is fit to hold the post of president. Physical fitness should be tested in real terms”, he opined.
