Chairman of Sri Lanka’s National Authority for the Protection of Witnesses and Victims Suhada Gamlath is to step down after comments he had made to a newspaper had created controversy.
Gamlath had claimed that the Government had pressured the Attorney General’s Department to pursue cases against former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala said that Gamlath had already informed the relevant authorities of his intention to step down.
Athukorala was speaking to reporters at a media briefing today.
She said that President Maithripala Sirisena was aware of the situation and will act accordingly.
