The major party of the ruling alliance in Sri Lanka, the United National Party’s Working Committee will meet at 3 PM today and leader of the party Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will nominate Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa as the UNP Presidential candidate, Minister Navin Dissanayake told the media short while ago.

The United National Party (UNP)-led Democratic National Front (DNF) alliance would be formed on October 9 during a rally at the Galle Face Green.
Sources said that the UNP has agreed to appoint Minister Rajitha Senaratne as the Secretary of the DNF - which would be represented by the symbol of a swan at the presidential election.
Meanwhile, UNP party seniors during a meeting today (Sept 26) agreed to nominate Minister Sajith Premadasa as their presidential candidate under five conditions.
UNP leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, Minister Navin Dissanayake, and parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara were among those who attended the meeting.
This decision would be confirmed at the UNP's Working Commitee meeting set to get underway at 3 pm today.
The UNP has also planned to hold its convention on October 3.
