Hong Kong: Carrie Lam insists she never weighed resignation

Embattled Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said today she had never considered resigning and had not offered her resignation the central government.

"I have never tendered a resignation to the central people’s government,” she insisted. "I have not even contemplated tendering resignation ... The choice of not resigning is my own choice.”

She said that "the reason being I believe I can lead my team to come out of this impasse.”

Earlier, Reuters reported an audio recording, where Lam is heard to say she was “very, very limited” in how the government could respond to the unrest.

She explained that it was an attempt to offer the view of an “individual” where resigning “might be an easy choice.”

“But I told myself repeatedly in past months that I and my team should stay on to help Hong Kong. That is my decision. I know it is not going to be an easy path.”
