“The United States is deeply concerned by the appointment of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as Army Commander. The allegations of gross human rights violations against him, documented by the United Nations and other organizations, are serious and credible”, the United States Embassy in Colombo has observed on the latest appointment of Sri Lanka Army Commander by the President and Commander in Chief of Security Forces Maithripala Sirisena.
