The president of the National Electoral Commission, Alina Balseiro Gutierrez, announced that Cubans have ratified the new Constitution of the Republic.
Addressing national and international media in the Cuban capital Monday, Balseiro highlighted the transparency of the consultation process held on February 24, with a voter’s turnout of 7.8 million out of 9.2 million registered voters.
According to the official, 86.85% of the votes cast were in favor of the new Magna Carta.
Balseiro said that 6 million 816 thousand 169 voters voted YES (86.85%) and 706 thousand 400 voted NO (9.0%). Of all the ballots cast, 127 thousand 100 were declared void, and 198 thousand 674 were left blank
With this results, 73.31 % of all registered voters ratified the new Cuban Constitution.
