A New Way Forward for Brexit

by Our London Correspondent

In an action unprecedented with far reaching long term consequences for the way UK is governed, Prime Minister Theresa May won a mandate to go back to the EU in Brussels and renegotiate a “Backstop Deal” after seven different high stake motions were voted on,  a variety of  Brexit options, one after another  this evening 29 January 2019,in Parliament.

The final vote was 317 for the Government and 301 against.

In preparation for a No Deal Brexit in exactly two months time, the UK Armed Forces have been stockpiling food, fuel, spare parts and ammunition at bases in the Falklands, Cyprus and Gibraltar, according to the Sunday Times, 27 January 2019.

Whitehall contingency planning includes UK ready to declare martial law to avert a crisis, under the sweeping powers available in the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to stop any civil unrest. These draconian measures are thought necessary “to protect human life, health and safety, protect or restore property and supplies of money, food, water, energy and /or fuel.”

With Brexit the only thing is, that nothing is still certain until everything is agreed by the EU.

The next major flashpoint in the “Battle over Brexit” will take place again in Parliament, by the end February 2019 when EU makes its decision.
