Sri Lanka: Speaker commends judiciary

Speaker pointed out that those who were unsatisfied with his conduct should bring forth a no-confidence motion against him instead of slinging accusations on various occasions






( December 4, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has commended the judiciary for its continuing stance in the face of the current political crisis while saying that all unfair allegations levelled against him have now been dismissed.

Issuing a press release, the Speaker noted that the last few parliamentary proceedings have been conducted according to democratic standards upon consultation with constitutional experts.

Speaker Jayasuriya further pointed out that his actions have not been done with the intention of either strengthening or weakening any entity. Instead, he said that his course of action during the recent past has been based on a matter of policy.

He also said pointed out that those who were unsatisfied with his conduct should bring forth a no-confidence motion against him instead of slinging accusations on various occasions.

The release went on to add that the country's political, social and economic well being has deteriorated during the recent past. It further said that all party leaders must join hands to restore the situation of the parliament back to normalcy following the next parliamentary session.
