Sri Lanka: Rajapaksa to Resign

Installed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who is a Member of the Parliament for Kurunegala District has decided to resign by accepting the court decision, informed sources told the Sri Lanka Guardian

"New cabinet will be sworn in accordingly," sources added.

Meanwhile, posting an update on his twitter account, Namal Rajapaksa, MP has confirmed that Mr. Rajapaksa will be resigned tomorrow to ensure the stability of the nation.

"Rajapaksa will be addressed the nation prior to his resignation," Namal Rajapaksa tweeted.

President Maithripala Sirisena installed Rajapaksa as his Prime Minister by sacking sitting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on October 26, which led to a months-long political deadlock.  Then President Sirisena dissolved the Parliament and called for a snap poll.

Both decisions were challenged before the court and the court ruled out in a historic judgement that the President Sirisena has violated the constitution, yesterday.  Therefore the Parliament was reinstated by the Supreme Court.
