Sri Lanka: Mithree to be PM Candidate?

(November 12, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Maithree Wickremasinghe, the wife of sitting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, proposed to be the Prime Ministerial Candidate for the forthcoming Election to be held in 2019.

Her name was suggested by some of the senior members of the party, reliable sources told Sri Lanka Guardian.

Born in 1954, Maithree Wickramasinghe is an academic and Professor of English at the University of Kelaniya. Graduated from the King’s College London, Prof Maithree has completed her doctorate in Women Studies.

She is the founder director of the Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Kelaniya and is a visiting professor on gender and women's studies at other educational institutions including the University of Colombo and the University of Sussex in London.

She is the author and editor of numerous publications.
