Sri Lanka: Head of CID transfer withdrawn

Daughter of the late journalist Lasantha Wickrematung addressed a strongly worded letter to the President






( November 20, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara has withdrawn the transfer of OIC Nishantha Silva who was ordered to be transferred from the CID on Sunday (Nov 18).

The transfer of OIC Silva was revealed by MP Ajith Perera while speaking to the media on Sunday.

However, the transfer order was met with serious disagreement by the UNP and civil society groups. The UNP was slated to lodge a complaint at the National Police Commission (NPC) with regard to the transfer.

Meanwhile, Ahimsa Wickrematunge, the daughter of the late journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, has addressed a strongly worded letter to the President against the transfer of OIC Nishantha Silva from the CID.

OIC Silva, who was handling investigations pertaining to the abductions, assaults and murders of journalists such as Lasantha Wickrematunga, Keith Noyahr and Poddala Jayantha was ordered to be transferred from the CID on Sunday (Nov 18).
