Sri Lanka: CDS Wijegunaratne’s blatant lies rejected by Police

There is nothing we can find to prove that Silva was having any kind of link with the LTTE

( November 20, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The police investigation came to the conclusion by stating that the claim of the Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne against the Officer-in-Charge of the CID, Inspector of Police (IP) Nishantha Silva is nothing but an utter lie.

“IP Nishnatha de Silva is maintaining suspicious links with the Tamil Tigers ( LTTE)”, Wijegunaratne affirmed during the Security Council meeting chaired by President Sirisena on November 11, 2018. Accordingly, the President asked newly installed Secretary to the Ministry of Defence as well as  IGP to take immediate action against Nishantha by trusting Wijegunaratne’s words with no doubt.

Wijegunaratne has reaffirmed his statement with IGP over the telephone on November 16, 2018.

However, IGP called for the investigation on this crucial issue, which was headed by Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratna. In his final report, he came to conclusion, that “there is nothing we can find to prove that Nishantha Silva was having any kind of link with the LTTE, therefore Wijegunratne's claim is nothing but an utter lie”.

Nishatha Silva is heading the investigation against alleged crimes committed by Wijegunartne. The CID believes that the action of Wijegunaratne is directly aiming to sabotage the investigation.
