Maldives: Solih sworn in as 7th President

Education in Maldives will be free up to first degrees - Solih promised

( November 17, 2018, Male, Sri Lanka Guardian) President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been sworn in as the seventh President of the Republic of Maldives.

Solih’s inauguration was held at the Gaolhu National Stadium this Saturday evening.

The oath was administrated by Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi.

A brief roundup of the Solih's speech;

I assure you, I will not distinguish between any citizen.

Education in Maldives will be free up to first degrees.

Destroying our natural resources in the name of development is a disservice to our children and our children's children.

I will lower the cost of electricity during my first 100 days.

I will establish a system for complaints regarding the government through the President's Office.

I need to save Maldives from this dark pit it is in and ensure people their rights. I need to find justice to victims. And return missing State funds to the people of Maldives.

I guarantee legal protection to whistleblowers who uncover corruption.

The state of national treasury is critical. Billions have been lost from the State's treasury. Exact amount lost due to embezzlement, corruption and negligence is unclear.

There need to be major changes to the justice system. Judges need to be answerable to the Maldivian people.

No one, absolutely no one will be left behind during my administration.

Today, we have prioritized national interest before our political differences.

In Sha Allah, the people of Maldives, today, will witness the return to justice.

The people voted to establish justice. To stop differentiation. To establish water and sanitation services. And based on by pledges.

I will never forget the reason why people elected me.

The Maldivian people elected me as the opposition coalition's candidate.

I assure you I will stand by the oath of office I have taken today.
