The only time that the SLFP was able to form a government had been under the Mrs Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Subsequently, she too had to form a coalition with other minority parties to run her government.

“Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”
~ Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States.
( November 14, 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The bitterness, futility, and self-righteousness of most moral arguments can now be explicated, made plain and comprehensible. In a debate on politics, or what my party did to your party, both sides believe that their positions are based on reasoning about the facts and issues involved. Both sides present what they take to be excellent arguments in support of their positions. Both sides expect the other side to be responsive to such reasons. When the other side fails to be affected by such good reasons, each side concludes that the other side must be closed minded or insincere. In this way the culture wars can generate motivated players on both sides who believe that their opponents are not sincerely motivated.
Let us go back in time when the first deception took place – the time when Mr. S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike who was a member of the United National Party began his ruthless competition against the party that was constituted and established after the Independence. He started his own party the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (M.E.P.)
A country which was peaceful, where all members of all communities, irrespective of race, religion, caste or creed were living in amity and peace, he brought about the destructive Sinhala Only Policy, which plunged the country into unprecedented chaos, mayhem, wanton destruction, genocide and murder of the innocents in the Tamil Community.
After his untimely demise by assassination, the reins of the government were taken over by his widow Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike, who obtained her votes by shedding tears of having lost her devoted husband. In that case devotion should mean that the husband’s political party the M.E.P. should have been revived under her patronage; but she came up with the establishment of another party the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) – the first betrayal.
The only time that the SLFP was able to form a government had been under the Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Subsequently, she too had to form a coalition with other minority parties to run her government.
Then comes Chandrika Kumaratunga Bandaranaike, her daughter, knew the futility of running her party under the SLFP slogan and she formed a coalition the Peoples’ Alliance (PA) and later Chandrika Kumaratunga, founded The United People's Freedom Alliance as a political alliance in 2004 the same party including Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa who subsequently contested under this coalition.
Followed by another betrayal - the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) betrayed by treachery, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and it’s political alliance the UPFA.
These are series of betrayals by one party since 1956.
Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, as the whole world knows. came to power on 15th January 2015, by the support of Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe and his supporters who were in majority together with the other minority parties, who all had one sole aim in mind – to defeat the authoritarian, oligarchic, despotic rule of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
It was very clear, from day one, that Maithripala Sirisena who bamboozled himself to power, was behaving like a mole using all his cunningness and apathy for the betrayal of the UNP that brought him into power. He blatantly, shamelessly, manipulated every Media, electronic and print with the exception of the TNL.
It is also the talk of the town, that all strikes, walk-outs and other civil disobediences which wreaked havoc for the past three years were all in collusion with Maithripala Sirisena, his collaborators, his henchmen and the despicable partners in crime.
All these were engineered and unleashed, without any attempt at concealment – he could not contain his burning jealousy and hatred for Mr. Wickremasinghe and finally betrayed him by ousting him from his premiership.
He violated all norms of human decency, irreverently and sacrilegiously heedless; and overrode and violated the constitution with impunity.
This in effect constitutes Treason - Treason is the act of betraying your country or a betrayal of trust.
In this case Maithripala Sirisena, the incumbent president, has committed these horrible excesses without flinching.
What does the future hold for our beloved Sri Lanka? We will have to wait and see.
Shall wind up with a gem by Bayard Rustin, Civil Activist:
“If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot achieve such a society through violence.
If we desire a society without discrimination, then we must not discriminate against anyone in the process of building this society.
If we desire a society that is democratic, then democracy must become a means as well as an end.”
