( January 1, 2015, Zurich, Sri Lanka Guardian) My vote is for MR ( Mahinda Rajapaksa) .Why?
For the Tamil people, the choice between the two candidates is a choice between Sinhala chauvinist rubbish dump and Sinhala chauvinist sewage pit where the Bandaranayeke variant and Thamby Muthali variant have come together in one pit.
This is the time Tamil people must move in and strengthen MR and give him the opportunity for paradigm shift in his policies that will enable him to restructure Sri Lanka as a peaceful nation in harmony with her political realities.
I am not at all impressed by the opposition or its common candidate. Chandrika is desperate to bring her son to politics. For that she will do anything. Who are these people to complain about family rule? The opposition will be lost as a government and it will lead to military dictatorship.
What is the point of allowing Sinhala Chauvinism to change horses at this juncture? TNA has no choice. We may have to say, ‘This is enough, let us bring this to an end’, the same statement I made with regard to LTTE in 2007. Neither LTTE nor TNA ever took correct political decisions in history.
Though MR has tried to be the hero of Sinhala chauvinism with his ‘Appe dinug ‘ ( we won) devil dance, his political programme has been to steer the country towards Soulbury’s unitary state which is not a very bad idea for the Tamil people compared to the Sinhala chauvinist state which is the natural square of the opposition.
In the face of Global Warning issues, where the North East of Sri Lanka could emerge as the worst hit area affected by global warming in the entire South Asia, the unitary state idea has become worth reconsideration by the Tamil people.
With his agenda of Soulbury’s unitary state, MR’s attempt to keep the Bandaranayeke variant chauvinist forces of the SLFP within the government and chauvinist forces outside under wrap has led to the indigestion that has forced the excretion of the chauvinist forces like the wood apple appearing whole in the elephant dung and Mano Ganasan has channelled the excreta successfully into the chauvinist swage pit of Thamby Muthali, the UNP.
My vote is for MR. It is only a tactical vote and not an endorsement of current policies of the government. I want Tamil people also to vote tactically. The chauvinist forces and the conspiratorial and corrupt Sonakar who were the obstacle to MR moving forward towards a settlement have now been banished. This is the time Tamil people must move in and strengthen MR and give him the opportunity for paradigm shift in his policies that will enable him to restructure Sri Lanka as a peaceful nation in harmony with her political realities.
Wish everyone a Happy New Year.
