( December 8, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The receiving of nominations for the 7th Presidential election in Sri Lanka began at 7 this morning and concluded at 11am.
19 candidates, 17 from political parties and two independent candidates handed over their nominations today.
Security around the Election Secretariat had been beefed up due to the arrival of candidates to hand over nominations, and most of the candidates reached the Election Secretariat at 9 this morning.
During the nomination process, the Election Commissioner informed the candidates that they can hand over nominations as well as file objections too.
Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena arrived at the Election Secretariat at 9.10 and handed over his nominations at an auspicious time of 10.05 this morning.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at the Election Secretariat at 10.29 and handed over his nominations to the Election Commissioner at an auspicious time of 10.48 this morning.

Nagamuwa from Frontline Socialist party, M.B. Thamini-mulla from Okkoma
Wesiyo Okkoma Rajawaru party, Pani Wijewardana from Socialist Equality
Party, Jayantha Kulatunga from United Lanka Maha Sabha party, Wimal
Gee-ganage from Sri Lanka National Front, and Ibrahim Mohammad Miflal from United Peace Front handed over their nominations today.

Sama-samaja party, Prasanna Priyankara from Democratic National Movement,
Namal Ajith Rajapaksa from Our National Front, Battaramulle Seela-rathana
Thera from Janasetha Peramuna, Rathnayake Arachcige Sirisena from Patriotic
National Front, Sarath Manamendra from Nava Sihala Urumaya and
Ruwanthilaka Peduru Arachchi from United Lanka Common party also handed over their nominations this morning.
At the same time, Independent candidate I.M. Illayaz and Chaminda Anuruddha Polgampola also handed over their nominations for the forthcoming presidential election 2015.
Later the Election Commissioner informed the candidates that objections have been filed against two candidates.
