( June 25, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The chiefs of the national intelligence, state intelligence and the director of Army intelligence were behind the communal riots that occurred at Beruwala and Aluthgama and it was they who supported extremist terrorists reveals UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera.
Speaking at a media conference held yesterday (24th) Mr. Samaraweera said it was not proper to expose intelligence officials but as a people’s representative it is his duty to reveal all those officials in state intelligence services who support BBS and Sinhala Ravaya to inflame communal riots throughout the country. He said the aforesaid officials have intervened to get immediate release of 13 suspects who were arrested in connection with incidents at Aluthgama. He said they transferred the DIG who carried out his duties properly to another area.
“Despite the STF was accused for the incidents at Aluthgama, it was the RTF (Rajapaksa task Force) that roused communal flames and even the IGP is unable to control the DIG who is among intelligence officers who rouse communal flames,” added Parliamentarian Samaraweera.
Meanwhile, Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that Intelligence officers work for the national security, and they do not work on political agendas.
Addressing a media briefing held at the Defence and Urban Development Ministry Media Center today (June 25), Brigadier Wanigasuriya stated this, in response to a statement made by UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera yesterday.
At the media briefing the Army Media Director Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera revealed that the foundation stone will be laid tomorrow (June 26) for construction of a spiritual center for psychological wellbeing named 'Baunseth' spreading over 15 acres of land centering international meditation center at Delgoda Kanduboda . The center, which aims at enhancing the spiritual wellbeing of the soldiers, includes meditation chambers.
The center will be constructed based on a concept of the Secretary to Defence and Urban Development Ministry Gotabaya Rajapaksa under the guidance of Army head. Following the completion of construction process any member of the three forces will be allowed to visit the center and attend the meditation programmes held at the center for spiritual development.
