BBS Leader Kirama Wimalajothi Thera Resigns

( June 17, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Founding Leader of the Bodu Bala Sena, Kirama Wimalajothi Thera has resigned from the organization in protest of recent activities of the BBS, reports by local media based in Colombo.

The BBS was formed by Kirama Wimalajothi Thera and Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera in 2012 with Wimalajothi Thera as the founding Leader of the organization and Gnanasara Thera as the General Secretary.
Wimalajothi Thera has told his close associates that he is dissatisfied with the present state of affairs in the organization. He has also expressed displeasure with the recent developments in Aluthgama, Beruwala and Dharga Town.

However, it is still not clear whether Wimalajothi Thera is willing to "go public" with his opinion about the Bodu Bala Sena.

In the recent past, Wimalajothi Thera had gradually distanced himself from all activities of the organization.

Two years down the line, a considerable number of Buddhist monks who were earlier with the BBS do not play active roles in the organization. With things taking a violent turn, they are now of the view that the BBS is deviating from its "founding" principles.

The Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC) a research and link aggregator owned by the Beacham group, classified Bodu Bala Sena as a ‘terrorist organization’ in April 2014.
