( March 18, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Veteran actress Mercy Edirisinghe passed away early this morning at a private hospital after prolonged illness. She was 68.
Starting her career in the 1960s, she entered the stage drama field in 1967. She was very well remembered for her role in the play "Tharavo Igilethi."
She was also well known for the radio comedy programs "Vinoda Samaya" in which she played a pivotal role with veteran actors Annesly Dias, Berty Gunattileke and Samuel Rodrigo. Later these programs entered television media as well.
