February 13, 2014
Commissioner of Elections,
Elections Secretariat,
Rajagiriya.
Dear Sir,
Using double cabs given to provincial councils for electioneering
Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has observed that over 75 double cabs, sky blue in colour, belonging to Southern and Western provincial councils have been deployed to local government authorities in election held areas. There is a high probability that these vehicles will be used for electioneering.
According to government regulations these vehicles should only be used for activities benefitting the people, its the responsibility of the provincial councils to assure this. In addition steps should be taken to prevent the misuse of these vehicles to promote candidates and political parties.
We kindly request you to take appropriate action to prevent the misuse of vehicles belonging to provincial councils during the election period.
Yours sincerely,
Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon
Executive Director – CaFFE
