( September 22, 2013, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The official results of all the 5 districts in the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) has been released recording a sweeping victory for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).
Accordingly, TNA has secured victory over Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Vavuniya.
According to the final results, ITAK has won 28 seats and the UPAF has won 7 seats in the NPC.
SLMC has been able to secure 1 seat in the Northern Provincial Council.
Along with the bonus seats, the total seat count in the first ever Northern Provincial Council is 38.
TNA, by obtaining 213,907 votes in the Jaffna district, has won 14 seats and the runner up United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has got 35,995 votes securing 2 seats.
In Killinochchi, TNA has received 37,079 votes and 3 seats while the UPFA which received only 7,897 votes has won only 1 seat.
In Mannar district 3 seats have been secured by the TNA with 33,118 votes and 1 seat won by the UPFA with 15,104 votes. Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) which contested independently for Mannar district has won 1 seat by getting 4,571 votes.
The result in Vavuniya district has been divided among the TNA by 4 seats with 41,225 votes and the UPFA by 2 seats with 16,633 votes.
In Mullaitivu, 28,266 votes have been casted in favor of the TNA giving them 4 seats and the UPFA which received 7209 votes have secured 1 seat.
However, the United National Party (UNP) which contested for the Northern Provincial Council election has not been able to secure even a single seat in the new Council.
