( August 29, 2013, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Four soldiers who were taken into custody in connection with the alleged rape committed on the wife of an Army Sergeant Major, are to be interdicted.
Army Commander, Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayake, has instructed the relevant heads of the regiments under which the suspects serve, to interdict them, withhold their salary, and commence a military investigation into the crime.
The Army Commander had ordered the respective regiments to conduct investigations at regiment level so as to ascertain whether the soldiers were on duty, how they had left the Army camp, and also to ascertain who else had been with them at the time they had committed the alleged rape. According to the police, until the time of their arrest, the four soldiers had been attached to the Sri Lanka National Security Headquarters Camp at Lindawewa, Horowpathana.
The suspects were to be produced before the Kebethigollawa Magistrate yesterday (28).
