( August 7, 2013, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has identified the largest election cutout in Central, Northwestern and Northern provinces at Gampola, where highest number of election law violations has been reported. The cutout placed at the Old Bridge in the Gampola – Nuwara Eliya road has also been provided police security.
CaFFE Executive Director Keerthi Tennakoon said that two police posts have been established, in either side of the cutout, to protect the hoarding although this is a violation of election laws.
“This hoarding is a violation of election act. There are over 60 illegal election hoardings in Gampola and Nawalapitiya. We have already informed the Commissioner of Elections about illegal propaganda in the Central Province,” he said.
Anuradha Jayarathne, who has placed this cutout, is the son of Prime Minister DM Jayarathne and CaFFE has observed a large number of vehicles that belong to the Prime Minister’s Office used in Anuradha Jayarathne’s election campaign.
