( August 8, 2013, Sydney, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lanka Reconciliation Forum, Sydney, is organizing a workshop titled “Beyond Conflict” on 17 August 2013 at the University of Technology Sydney UTS) participated by Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims living in New South Wales and other Australian well-wisher for conflict resolution and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. The Reconciliation Forum, a non-partisan and a non-profit organization, has been in existence for more than three years and the present workshop is part of a project undertaken to investigate and study different perceptions of community members on the key issues relevant to reconciliation in Sri Lanka. The study project funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has already completed two components of focus group discussions and an opinion survey. While the workshop will be dealing with some of the key issues of international experiences, violence and recovering from violence, national question and role of diaspora through a host of key speakers, the organizers are also planning to present the results of the focus group discussions and the opinion survey.
The key speakers of the workshop are: Professors Suvendrini Perera and Daya Somasundaram, and Drs James Jupp, Laksiri Fernando and Lionel Bopage. The Chief Guest of the event is Justice Michael Finnane QC. The workshop will be facilitated by Professor Hilary Yerbury and Abe Quadan.
