Children most abused, sexually harrassed and raped in 2012
( April 9, 2013, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A total of 3859 cases of rape, sexual harassment ad child abuse have been reported from across the country in 2012 with children been the most victimised, Parliament was informed today.
The number of child rapes was the highest standing at 1759 as opposed to rape of women which was recorded at 330, Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena said in repose to a question raised by DNA MP Sunil Handunnetti.
A total of 1194 cases of child abuse was also recorded during the last year while the sexual harassment of children stood at 547.
The cases of sexual harassment of adult women were recorded at 29.
