( March 13, 2013, New York City, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam has announced that a wide ranging Freedom Charter of rights and freedoms will be drafted from input obtained through a survey from Tamils all over the world and will be promulgated to the world on 18 May 2013.
The survey, also available online, on tamilfreedomcharter.org has 35 questions inviting Tamils to articulate their ‘freedom demands’ and preference to help “develop” and draft the Tamil Eelam Freedom Charter.
The TGTE Prime Minister Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran had earlier called the promulgation of the Tamil Eelam Freedom Charter a major undertaking for all Tamils. “As Tamils envision the future and look forward to the fruition of the dream of the restoration of an Independent and Sovereign State of Tamil Eelam,” the Tamil Eelam Freedom Charter he said promises, “to take the Vaddukoddai Resolution forward whilst taking inspiration from Britain’s Ma’gna Car’ta, the Freedom Charter of the African National Congress (ANC) as well as the Palestinian National Charter.”
The TGTE wants a broad spectrum of Tamils to be involved in the drafting of the Freedom Charter and says it will be a cooperative effort of Tamils that would include Tamil organisations and renowned experts in the field.
The TGTE Minister for Political Affairs, Thayaparan Thanikasalam, called this, “a noble endeavour” and the collection of Freedom Demands, “a huge responsibility” before the Tamil people and appealed to as many volunteers to come forward to help. “The ability of Tamils to work in concert would ensure its success and victory for the Tamil Eelam Freedom Charter will be a victory for the Tamil people,” he said.
