( October
3, 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) On Oct.2, 2012, in an article by Shenali Waduge to
Sri Lanka Guardian, She had quoted Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar who said
the Centre and the State Government take steps to grant citizenship to Sri
Lankan Tamils living in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu almost 35 years. I
reiterate if the Chief Minister, Jayaram Jayalalitha loves Sri Lankan Tamils
genuinely she must execute what Guru Ravi Shankar advocated.
Tamil
Nadu citizens treat Jayalalitha as a mother, AMMA. She is also was a Puratchi
Thalavi. Her movies were highly admired not only by Tamil Nadu citizens even
the moviegoers of Sri Lanka. From her debut, Vennira Aadai to her last movie,
Nadhiya Thedi Vanda Kadai in 1980 were equally popular. She won several awards
for her films and acting. Sri Lankan Tamils and Muslims had a very high regard
on her acting. Even I liked her as a talented movie personality.
But why
she hates Sri Lankans is a mystery. I presume because LTTE lost the war?
What is the role you played madam in that
wretched strife where hundreds of poor Tamils had a ghastly death along with
other Sri Lankan communities. They lost their limbs, eyesight, houses that they
built with hard earned money. Women lost their bread winners and beloved
children. Still you have this Eelam dream with your pal Dr.Karunanidi and
Vaiko?
Founder
of Dhrmavijaya Buddhist Vihare in Los Angeles, Ven.Walpola Piyananda Maha
Thera, contributing an article to Sri Lanka Guardian on 8th of Sept.2012
strongly commented. The open hatred and unrestrained vitriolic outbursts
against Sri Lanka by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayaram Jayalalitha are
appalling, and he further commented, I imagine, a huge embarrassment to the
Federal Government of India. Indians and Sri Lankans are very well aware that
the Indian government is very cordial with Sri Lanka and awarding innumerable
assistance to develop not only the war torn North but other parts of the
Island. Even today (Oct 2, 2012 ) Indian Govt. Started a housing project to
construct and repairs 43,000 housing units in the northern and eastern
provinces. But pity, that her divisive comments make every now and then
demonstrate a level of consciousness that is unbecoming of a Chief Minister.
India is drenched with innumerable problem of her citizens, the worse is the
Dalit issue. As the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu she should concentrate on her
problems and make every possible attempt to solve them. In my last article I
highlighted their grave problems of harassments meted out to her scheduled
caste people by so-called high caste stubborn characters. She has to initiate
strong action in consultation with the Indian government to annihilate the
dastardly situation.
Prabhakaran’s one target was to annihilate a
similar situation in Sri Lanka. He did it satisfactorily ousting most of the
high caste Tamils as refugees to other well to do countries. But you may
initiate a different technique. It is left to you as the Chief Minister instead
of propagating hate politics towards Sri Lanka and her citizens who are now
living a contented life with the innumerable assistance extended to them by the
present Government. There are hardships of course, which you can’t avoid when a
country with a strong infrastructure is striding towards prosperity.
Mr.
N.V.Venkataraman of Chennai writing to Sri Lanka Guardian on Sept. 8, 2012 quoting Buddha’s words in Dhammapada,
commented hatred only begets hatred.
He
further comments Image of hospitality of the Tamil Nadu state should not be
allowed to be tarnished by the Chief Minister’s harassments of foreign
tourists. She virtually kicked out Sri Lankan Catholic pilgrims who visited
Chennai to pay obeisance to their God. Those boys who came to play a friendly
game of soccer in Chennai were ousted. General Secretary of the Communist Party
of India has also expressed his concern and disapproval of her hate politics.
The Chief
Minister went into frenzy when she learned Sri Lanka school boys are scheduled
to play a soccer match with Tamil Nadu team and in rage has ordered the
suspension of the Stadium Officer of the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in
Chennai.
Chief
Minister who is popularly and ironically earned a name as Amma in the Tamil
Nadu State, but she had gone berserk and issued orders to send back immediately
Sri Lankan boys.
When an
Officer questioned her as to why she did this she has told by allowing soccer
team to play in their Stadium, it will hurts the sentiments of the Tamil people
of the Tamil Nadu State. It was a lame excuse!
Jayalalitha
hates to see North of Sri Lanka is getting developed with a strong solid
infrastructure for the satisfaction of the battered Tamil community who were
immensely suffered during the past 26 years due to the Eelam war. When Mrs.
Sushima Swarajh, the Leader of the opposition with her delegation visited the devastated
region Jayalalitha made nasty comments for which she responded. “It was not a
picnic or a junk trip. We started at 6.30 am and trudged till 11.30 pm. every
day. We were satisfied with the
development activities and she made her sincere comments.”
It could
be surmised from her day to day remarks against Sri Lanka that she is also may
have been part and parcel for the holocausts and genocides of innocent people
with the ruthless Tamil Tigers during the past. In this abominable civil war
Govt. Security personnel who had a legitimate military training had to attack
the enemy within the accepted International parameters of the war, where as
LTTE didn’t care about even their kith and kin but relentlessly fire their
rifles blindly.
Rajiv
Gandhi who had a great suspicion over the undue alliance of Tamil Nadu with the
LTTE, in consultation with the President J. R. Jayawardana sent the IPKF
battalion to safeguard the citizens of the North and crush the most ruthless outfit of the terrorist group
in the world. Consequently when he was attending a meeting in the Tamil Nadu he
was assassinated by a LTTE suicide bomber. Because Rajiv had a fear if LTTE
curved a region in the North of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu gets amalgamated with
them and attack the main government to have separate regional government for
Tamil Nadu. Few weeks after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi Jayalalitha faced
the General Election and she returned to the Legislative Council with AIADMK party label. She was elected as the
Chief Minister on July 24, 1991.
The Chief
Minister has filed a case at the Supreme Court in Tamil Nadu for the cession of
Kachchatheive , a small Island within the border of Sri Lankan water. Her
grudge is Indian fishermen crossing the International Maritime Boundary line and go beyond Kachchative and then get
attacked by Sri Lankan Navy. Because of this reason she is adamant to get back
the island to India. This is a willful
insult to the late two great ladies, the Late Mrs.Indira Gandhi and Late
Mrs.Srimavo Bandaranayake, the first woman Prime Minister in the world, who
delved on this deeply and allowed to be belonged to Sri Lanka as it is within
the International Maritime Boundary of Sri Lanka. So this is not an inherited
claim for the Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalitha to ask for and hates Sri Lanka
and Sri Lankan people. People in the globe whatever the community is should be
allowed to live peacefully, in harmony. They must be allowed to live within
their boundaries legally. They must be allowed to live within their cultural
areas blissfully as contended citizens. Tamils in the North and East are
getting that opportunity gradually. They have the rights to live in their
geographical environs amicably with their neighbours as civilized human beings.
No one has the right to kill them or oust them. Tamils, particularly in the
North have a pride to address themselves as Tamils. It is their ethnicity. It
is their heredity. We Sinhalese in the South, like to call ourselves Sinhalese.
Which is a term that we inherited from about 900BC. But when it comes to take
the entire citizens in the country, we are Sri Lankans. That term we earned
from the present name of the country. In that there is a bigger dose of
inspiration for us to have a pride.
All of us
live under one banner, in unity and harmony. Under one legal system as Sri
Lankan community. Whether it is North South East or West. It is immaterial.
Unity and harmony are paramount. We should not be subject to hate politics of
other communities in other parts of the globe. Tamil Nadu or Timbakto.
As I
pointed out to Mutuwel Karunanidi in the last article human beings in this
civilized world adamant to lead a peaceful life in unity and harmony. But the
massive hindrance is the lethal weapons available in the open market and sell
to terrorists in the wide world nothing but to kill human beings. I advocated
weapons should be manufactured only for the defence and security requirements
of respective governments and all governments in the world should ban the
availability of such weapons in the open market. Which would be illegal weapons
and impose heavy fines and take legal actions who ever secretly possess them.
This is the only way to control terrorism in the wide world. But on the
contrary it should be meticulously scrutinize what are their claims and whether
those are justifiable. Even to a considerable extent. Then UN and other world
bodies should look into before they commit irreparable damages. That should be
the prime responsibility of world body like the UN. Otherwise the existence of
such a body serves absolutely no purpose. The late Libyan Leader, Muammar al
Gaddafi who built the destiny of the country from grass root level. It was one
of the poorest, least developed countries of Africa. In 1969 he ousted King
Idris who enjoyed the life with western support, and rebuilt the country but he
was killed like a pauper. He, at the 64th General assembly of the UN held in
New York on 23rd of Sept.2009, boldly asked since the inception of the UNITED
NATIONS (Oct.24,1945 )there had been 65 wars in the world where there were
millions of victims. Has UN taken any tangible action to ease the situation? (
THERAPY by Dr.Sripali Vaiamon, page 521) May I suggest as one of the ideal
persons to get advice to annihilate terrorism in other parts of the world is
the Defence Secretary of Sri Lanka. He is an expert in this arena. However,
Religious Dignateries who preach and pray for peace constantly must make a loud
voice for the respective Governments in
the world to initiate stern actions to control illegal weapons.
Besides
this the age old caste conflicts in this under developed Asian countries have become a great hindrance
to lead a tussles free decent life to the civilized human beings.
Dr.B.R.Ambedkar
said, “Caste is a state of mind and it is a disease of mind.”
Indian
movie giant, Mr.Amithabh Bachchan, who is much senior and acclaimed higher than
you although not involves in politics, said the other day. It is time for every
Indians to rise above the biases of caste, creed, colour and religion. His
belief is that no person is small or common. That is whatever the branded caste
is they are in equal category, human-wise as the others. He further said his
parents were a fine example. His father was from Allahabad in Uttara Pradesh
and mother was a Sikh from Punjab. They had an inter caste marriage. Something
at that time unheard of. But both his parents were strong about this and lived
cordially.
Now we
are living in the 21st century, an advanced era. Why is this backwardness of
miserable caste hierarchy, which was originated in your country from Vedic time
and still dragging on throbbing and highlighting ignorance and the backwardness?
You are
well aware with the atrocities taking place almost daily in Tamil Nadu against
the Dalit people. I reminded this to Dr.Mutuwel Karunanidi in my previous
article.
Another film icon, sathya mev Jayathe, famed
Amir Khan who reiterated only the truth will become a triumphant. He approached
the Prime Minister, Mr.Manmohan Singh. He explained well and requested to do
away with manual cleaning of garbage by so-called low caste people for which he
gave an affirmative answer to change the situation.
For such
menial works government should engage modernized mechanisms adopting an advance
methodology. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu could follow easily the same example
without indulging in hate politics.
What is
this Eelam dream you and your Karunanidi always talking about? Do you know the
definition of Eelam? Please refer up to the Lexicon of the Madras University.
It has well defined it. Eelam means, land of Elu speaking people. Elu is a
synonym of Sinhalese. A term that had been used thousand years back. Ilu, Elu
or Hela. These terms now obsolete. But
meaning remains the same. In simple words it means the ‘land of Sinhalese.’ It
applies to the entire country. You may get further details from ‘Ancient
Jaffna’ by Mudliyar Rasanayagam.Be kind to your neighbouring country and her
people ,whether they are Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims, Malay or Burger. Don’t
hate civilized human beings.
