(19 July, 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) During the yesterdays media the newly appointed attorney general Palitha Fernando said he has taken oaths at a situation when there is a controversy over the increase of crime rates. He said he wishes to seek the assistance of all law enforcement agencies in order to establish the rule of law. He further asserted he needs the assistance of the law abiding citizens to enforce law and order.
I wish to inform the good senses of the Attorney general that there is nothing the people could assist him to enforce law and order and it is the AG departments duty to help the citizens of this country that law and order is carried out duly and justice is met by the law enforcement agencies.
It is funny for the attorney general to seek the assistance of the general public where as the AG department is responsible to assist the public to see whether the law and order prevails and the justice is met. The AG should see that the crimes are investigated impartial by the police/CID, the integrity and the substantive of the police/CID interrogation/investigation which will lead to prosecute the criminal not to protect and undermine the crime. It is the AG’s duty to see the jurisdictions are not politically influenced and the fundamental and political rights of the citizens are established and no state pardon given for criminals who are undergoing punishment for poya/poson, independence and presidents birthday day which can bring down the crime rate drastically.
We wish to remind the new AG that the people in this country are all law abiding citizens except the politicians and their henchmen’s who don’t abide by the law and it is not the public who assist the AG it is the law enforcement and the politicians who should assist your duty.
I wish to remind the attorney general the law abiding citizens helped the police to capture the white van abductors where the police released the criminals in the middle of the night and failed to apprehend the culprits and bring them before the court of law.
