Contempt of Court case against Minister Badhiutheen

( July 25, 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A contempt of court case was filled in the Court of Appeal against Minister Risad Badhiutheen today.

The petition which put foreword before the Court of Appeal stated that the respondent had attempted to thwart the course of justice by attempting to intimidate the Learned Magistrate and attempted to alter the order already made.

The petitioners are Prsident’s Counsel Geoffrey Alagaratnam, Dr Sunil F.A Cooray, Lal Wijenayake, Chandrapala Kumarage, E.C Feldano (President of the Mannar Bar Association.), Nalai Kamalika Manatunga (President of the Galle Law Association) and Presidents Counsel A.S.M Perera.

Meanwhile, a group of lawyers staged a protest in Hulftsdorp Court Complex today demanding the government to arrest the minister who was involved in the Mannar incident.
