( May 02, 2012, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) A large number of Sri Lankan Muslims living in the United Kingdom gathered at the Sri Lanka Muslim Cultural Centre, Harrow, on 24th April to discuss the attack on the Mosque in Dambulla and to decide on a plan of action. Leaders of several Sri Lanka Muslim organisations, businessmen and professionals were present.
The said attack was strongly condemned by every speaker and suggestions such as submitting a joint memorandum to the Govt. of Sri Lanka, holding a protest demonstration before the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London, taking-up the issue with missions of Arab and Muslim countries, and others were made.
It was finally agreed (1) to set-up an umbrella body representing all organisations, which will function under the name Council of Sri Lankan Muslim Organisations - UK (2) to submit a memorandum to the Sri Lanka High Commissioner in London expressing the concerns of Sri Lanka Muslims in the UK on the attack, and (3) to consider further action on the matter in co-ordination with the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka, the umbrella organisation of Muslim religious and civil society organisations in Sri Lanka.
A delegation of thirty representatives of the newly formed joint Council met the Sri Lanka High Commissioner by appointment on 25th April and submitted presented to him the memorandum appended.
