( May 03, 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Seventeen journalists have been killed worldwide this year while 67 were killed in 2011, Commonwealth Journalists Association, an international body of journalists said.
In 2011, 179 journalists were imprisoned worldwide, up from 145 the previous year.
In Sri Lanka, forty journalists and media workers have been killed, one missing and five media institutions damaged to date, since 2006, according to Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association.
Today is the World Media Freedom Day.
