( April 20, 2012, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) Specialist doctors at East Surrey hospital have recommended an open heart surgery for UNP parliamentarian Dr Jayalath Jayawardena, a reliable hospital source revealed.
Dr Jayawardena was admitted on 11 April after collapsing at Gatwick Airport.
A staff member who requested anonymity confirmed yesterday (19) that the Sri Lankan MP who has been received treatment at their Intensive Care Unit must undergo a heart surgery.
The source also confirmed "his condition continues to be closely monitored by the specialist doctors at the hospital and this decision was taken after analyzing the medical reports including the angiogram results."
MP Jayawardena had undergone an angiogram (cardiac catheterization) on Tuesday (17) morning. However for the heart surgery Dr Jayalath Jayawardena will be transferred to St George's Healthcare NHS Trust in Tooting.
Few days back, some media reports falsely mentioned that UNP Gampaha District MP Jayalath Jayawardena who was taken ill suddenly in the UK has been discharged from hospital on 16 April as he is well on his way to a complete recovery.
Sri Lanka High Commissioner for UK, Dr Chris Nonis and High Commission officials have visited MP Jayawardena on many occasions to monitor his condition. Government Minister Rajitha Senarathne who was also in the UK at that time visited Dr. Jayawardena in hospital.
Dinesh Kapukotuwa, UNP-UK Branch informed that MP Jayawardena has been consulting doctors.
