( February 28, Karachi, Sri Lanka Guardian) Vice Chairman Voice for Baloch Missing Persons Qadeer Baloch on Monday said that credible institutes should investigate into the issue of missing persons in Balochistan as an independent inquiry cannot be expected from the state.
He was speaking to the media at Karachi Press Club on Monday. He said that the international community should take notice of the situation in Balochistan, adding that international human rights organizations should come to Balochistan and probe the matter.
Qadeer Baloch said that the brutal killing of people in Balochistan was on the rampage by the state institutions, fearing that if the international community does not intervene, the killings and abductions would continue.
While criticizing the statements of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, he said that the number of missing persons was much more than 46.
He said that the episode was not the only one of its kind. He charged that the minister on several occasions has deceived the people by his false statements.
He said that the people protesting over the issue were being pressurized and harassed to be silent, adding that they were being forced to close their camp in Quetta whereas now in Karachi they were receiving threats to close their camp down as well.
Baloch said that in this era, no one can be stopped from protesting as it was their right. He regretted that the political parties were silent over the issue.
He also said that a protest rally would be staged over the issue on March 18 in Karachi while a seminar would also be organized later on.
