(October 04, Paris, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lanka has co-sponsored the initiative of the Republic of Korea to organize the first World Humanities Forum with a view to enhancing the visibility of UNESCO in the field of human sciences and to facilitate intellectual cooperation throughout the world.
Taken up at the 187th session of the Executive Board of UNESCO, currently underway in Paris, the proposed Forum under the theme of ‘Universalism in a Multicultural World’ would be aimed at reflection on key challenges facing humanity today from the perspective of human sciences and the promotion of the role of humanism.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Sri Lanka to UNESCO, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka noted that strengthening the Humanities and building a culture of peace was of immense importance in a global context. He pointed out that this proposal would strengthen UNESCO’s focus on a New Humanism.
The event which would be co-sponsored by UNESCO and the Republic of Korea would be held in Busan, Republic of Korea from 24th to 26th November 2011.
