(July 25, Panadura, Sri Lanka Guardian) Panadura police arrested a person and remanded him for possessing of 3g and 280mg of heroine. He was arrested at Diggala area in Panadura North. According to police, the above amount of heroine was packed in 8 packets.
In a case, bearing number 51443, Moratuva police informed that there was 1100mg of heroine in possession of the suspect, Uva Adikarige Somavathi, however, only 253mg of heroine was sent to the Government Analyst.
In the case, bearing number 1694/08, Piliyandala police informed the courts that 482mg of heroine was in possession of N. D Anulawathi. However, according to the Government Analyst report the stuff was identified as heroine but the amount was not mentioned.
The situation is same in the case of K. R. Mallika, bearing number 2303. Thalangama police informed the courts that there were 109mg of heroine in her possession. Like in Anulawathi’s case, it was mentioned in the government analyst report that although heroine was identified the amount was not mentioned.
Somawathi and Anulawathi were released, but Mallika is still detained as a pre trial detainee at women’s ward in the Welikada prison.
Whatever the reasons may be, these types of police ugliness are continuing? The other crucial question as to why the court did not consider these kinds of terrible frauds?
