(June 23, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Government will shortly introduce a Right to Information Bill to Parliament, Acting Cabinet Spokesman Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said today.
The Minster’s assurances come less than two days after the Government defeated a move by UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya to introduce a similar Bill in the Legislature.
Minister Yapa said the government defeated that Bill because the UNP MP had gone back on a decision made at the Party Leaders' meeting not to present the Bill on Tuesday.
He said the government Bill being drafted would address a wide range of issues.
