(June 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The first election meeting of the Tamil National Alliance at Alaveddi came under attack this evening by a group of persons dressed in army uniforms, reports from the area said,
At least ten persons had been injured in the attack.
Two hours after the incident Military spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala said he had not received any reports about the incident.
TNA MPs said they had complained to the Police and the army about the incident.
Some of the Police Ministerial Security Division bodyguards who intervened to protect the MPs whom they were guarding also were among those attacked.
A TNA spokesman said they were going ahead with a second meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Jaffna.
