Indian PM to visit Sri Lanka

(June 11, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Indian Premier, Dr. Manmohan Singh, accepted an invitation to visit Sri Lanka, at a date yet to be decided, when his National Security Adviser, Shiv Shanker Menon met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.

Mr. Menon, who is part of a high-powered Indian delegation which arrived in Sri Lanka on June 10, delivered the news to President Rajapaksa through a letter stating Dr. Singh’s intent.

The letter was handed over at a meeting with the President today, arranged by the Indian delegation-which also includes Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar- after bilateral talks this Friday.

The President’s Media Director General, Bandula Jayasekera, said that a date for the official visit would be set following further discussion between the External Affairs ministries of both countries.
