(May 29, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) In an interview last week, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said steps should be taken to release all Tamil detainees adding that though the armed separatist struggle had ended, the attempts by some neo-colonialist elements to divide this country were continuing.
“These forces have not given up their attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the country,” he said. “With the end of the war, the government should have taken steps not to leave any room for such interference by the United Nations or anyone else. It is very important to lift the state of emergency and do away with draconian laws such as the Prevention of Terrorism Act. In the post-war context, steps should be taken to release all these Tamil political detainees. Action is needed to speedily resettle all the displaced people by giving them the necessary facilities. It is all the more important to establish civil administration in those areas.” Tilvin made these comments pre-empting the possibility of India asking the Lankan government to do away with the State of emergency. However by the time this statement appeared the Indo Lanka agreement has been announced. Not only that, the agreement stressed precisely the conditions indicated by the JVP. It is sad that JVP had to wait all this time to come out with the basic demands made two years ago by all democratic organisations. It was happily enjoying the chauvinist dictatorial condition created by the Mahinda regime. In fact as a biggest supporter of Mahinda regime during the war, the JVP could not change its coat so rapidly. It had to wait till the government started attacking them mercilessly. Also they really opened their mouths only when devolution became an important issue again. Indian rulers raised the issue of devolution as well as the compensation for war destruction. Latter jerked the JVP in to hasty action to campaign for the release of political prisoners and the removal of emergency. Still nothing is said about the political solution to the Tamil national problem.
Genuine aspiration
JVP claims that the armed separatist struggle is over. Do they accept that the non military separatist struggle is still continuing? Separatist struggle whether armed or not, started precisely because JVP and other chauvinist organisations were obstructing the genuine aspiration of the Tamil people for autonomy or self rule. JVP very consciously created the false idea that the separatist war was created by some external neo colonial force. There by they were consciously concealing the chauvinist discrimination and terror that Tamil people were subjected to. They became protectors of cruel campaigns of all Sinhala bourgeoisie regimes. Some times, they got up from this chauvinist dream to declare the right of self determination under their leadership to the Tamils. Thus they accepted in such times, that Tamils were oppressed in their home land. However they could not keep this commitment to democracy more than few months. Again and again, they joined with most criminal chauvinists and militarists to push the government of the bourgeoisie to war against the oppressed people in the north east. It is this war that created the present dictatorial regime of Mahinda. Having created a Frankenstein monster to destroy the north and east, the JVP now coordinates their demand s for democracy with whistles of Sonia Regina. That also a big farce as they are lagging behind Sonia in their set of demands for democracy. How can the JVP out bid Indian leaders who support Tamil autonomy when it is not prepared to demand self rule? Clearly the idiocy of Sinhala petty bourgeoisie is shown in all its nakedness. If they seriously want not to leave any room for neo colonial interference, then they should stand for the democratic rights of the Tamil people; in particular for their right of self rule.
Two years back the neo colonial forces that the JVP mentioned were here to support the war against Tamil liberation. Delhi Arya Brahmins, ugly American Yankees, Zionist of Israel and British imperial agents, all used the war as a god given opportunity to establish their clutches in every corner of this island. What were our great anti colonial brothers doing then?.
Enslavement
The JVP was in the fore front of supporting the war efforts and not a word was said against the intervention of big powers. In fact the war was conducted by the global powers directed by India and Lankan bourgeoisie regime of Mahinda only provided men and facilities. Hence it was the biggest event in recent history where foreign powers got the opportunity to empower enslavement of our beloved country. The JVP was backing to the hilt the capitalist exploiters in their cruel endeavor. Suddenly the Rip van Winkle has got up and shouting against the neo colonials who could intervene here under the pretext of promoting democracy and human rights. Comrades of the JVP should wash their spoiled hands before appealing to the masses to get up against neo colonialists. As long as their brains are clouded with chauvinism and hatred against Tamil autonomy and freedom they will remain supporters of very evil that they want to counter.
