Representatives of the eight countries where elephants roam freely are meeting to secure a future for the animal increasingly under threat. Mining and land development are threatening elephants' habitats as does ivory poaching, resulting in increased conflict between humans and the beasts. The E8 countries - Botswana, Congo, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Thailand - will work together to ensure the long-term survival of the elephant and its habitat in their regions. -AP
