(April 21, New York City, Sri Lanka Guardian) News published in the Press Trust of India, the Sri Lankan envoy to the UN Dr Palitha Kohane has claimed: "The UN Secretariat told the government that it was concerned that the report might be leaked because everything leaks from the (UN) Secretariat." This is clearly another effort of the denial spree and apportioning blame culture of the current government that has no other options available to cover up the truth behind its conduct.
The very same PTI news also published the coments of UN deputy spokesperson of the UN Farhan Haq, who stated: "We have no reason to believe that the leak came from the (UN) secretariat".
The latest (April 21, 2011) claim of Kohane comes about following the publication of the comments made by the ‘The Island’ newspaper editor to the UN investigative Journal Inner City Press (ICJ) of April 16, 2011.
In that, it was reported: “Prabath Sahabandu, editor of The Island daily, told CPJ that his paper's pro-Rajapaksa stance was a natural fit: 'This government was preoccupied with the war effort and we were also campaigning against terrorism as a newspaper. On this particular issue (leaking of the UN report), we saw eye to eye. So we didn't have the problems that other newspapers had.”
