(March 26, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) The march from Chennai to Delhi by over 150 determined Sri Lankan Tamils ended yesterday (25 March 2011). The Tamils supporting the effort of the Eelam National Democratic Front (ENDLF) walked 2,570 kilometres starting from Rajiv Gandhi memorial in Sriperumputhoor to Mahathma Gandhi memorial in Delhi travelling through eight federal states.
At Mahathma Gandhi circle, they placed flowers and prayed and then proceeded to hold a special meeting. The meeting commenced with singing the Eelam national song and memorial speeches were given to remember Sutharsan who died in a motor accident en-route to Delhi. The meeting was chaired by ENDLF’s Thayaparan.
Prof. Joseph Xavior, London representative of ENDLF V Ramaraj, procession organiser Mangalaraj, Kannan from France, Kajan from Canada, ENDLF leader Gnanasegaran and many others spoke at the meeting.
The organisers confirmed that their memorandum demanding for the full implementation of the Indo-Lanka Accord and the removal of illegal Sinhala settlements in the north and east were submitted to Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and to the leaders of the political parties in Delhi.
