(February 27, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Anyone going through the recent issues of the IMF journal, Finance and Development, can get an elegant view of the caste system within the global capitalism! Of course caste system of the ancient India was based on Varna division of the society. After thousands of years we have arrived at a modern version of the obsolete system. Modern Arya Brahmins are the pundits of the IMF /WB/WTO trio recent economic crisis, which is strictly speaking is not yet over, gave supervisory powers to the management trio.
Even Obama was given a shot in the ear, when in early 2009 the US authorities invited IMF to conduct an assessment of the US financial system. Obama was dreaming of a new democracy with his state capitalist interventions. But the IMF led neo-Arya Brahmins insisted that there is no third way. If not dictatorial Stalinist socialism, there is only one way out, free market led MNCs system. It is necessary to give every stimulus to these Multi National dragons and revive global capitalism. On this basis neo liberalist theories were extended to create a new form of Chathur Veda.
New Rajahs of the global capitalist system, the politicians, chief executives and other managerial lords were advised not to fear anybody but to go ahead with the directions given by the pundits of the Three Institutes. The local bankers and the merchants of all trades constitute the third caste and their job is to extend the grip of the MNCs system to cover every inch of the world.
Neo Sudras (untouchables) are the working population that should be satisfied that they are employed by the system. They should be happy because the system is continuously vomiting out rejects, refugees and displaced people. Such outcasts are classified as human dust, and considered to be potential terrorists. These humans could agitate for the right to live but if riots develop or if they resort to terrorism then they will be eliminated by military methods. In the old system the outcasts were marginal and mostly belonged to the Neolithic tribes living outside the civilized society. Today in the new system we find outcasts even in London.
The recent report of the IMF about Lanka says “Against this background, our assessment is that current monetary conditions are appropriate for supporting the economic recovery.” If these Arya Brahmin pundits say that we are okay, then we the plebeians must accept their words! Then they go further “The authorities continue to execute policies in line with the program goals. Performance against the end-December targets was satisfactory, with the 2010 budget deficit likely to have been held within the target of 8 percent of GDP. The authorities’ structural reform agenda is also broadly on track.” Okay, no problem, no problem. Only thing is that the masses of poor people find this beloved land of theirs a hell hole to live in. Before long they might join the millions of displaced people in the Middle East, to riot against the gospel of the neo Arya Brahmins. The latter advised our government to prune the budget deficit. That is to contain, wages and expenditure for social services including education, health and transport. On the other hand, they wanted the government to increase the tax burden. While all these are done to the down trodden, the global investors were given every support possible.
However we find the policies are different for developed countries. One IMF guru says “the abrupt deterioration of fiscal positions in advanced economies, emerging markets in central and eastern Europe, and elsewhere has been a key consequence of the global financial crisis. These large budget deficits have caused a sharp rise in public debt in advanced economies that likely will continue through the next five years, pushing government debt well above levels seen at any time since the end of World War II.” Then he argues “If they consolidate too soon-that is, they take actions to reduce budget deficits in the near term-they could kill the recovery. But inaction or policy mistakes could lead to concerns about further debt accumulation and ultimately reignite a crisis.” Obviously, if one is loyal to the system then the recovery of the advanced economies must be given priority. He explains further, “Over the next few years, governments in many advanced economies will have exceptionally high financing needs to cover big budget deficits and to refinance maturing debt.” Of course they should stimulate investors, look after the aging population, continue social spending and last but not the least, continue the military spending all over the world!
It is all clear. IMF and other two institutes have taken over the supervision of recovery and everything is done to get the neo liberal economy functioning. Their advice is based on very straight forward principles. If anyone wants to survive in this world of MNCs system then one has to help the lords of the system at the expense of all lesser humans. Rich investors will be helped at the expense of the proletariat and the displaced. The old and experienced will be defended against the thrust of the young. Men will be preferred for jobs as women get pregnant! This is the neo liberal project in the post crisis world. No wonder the people are up in arms as never before. It has started in the countries where restrictions were severe. But the struggle has an agenda applicable to most of the countries including the advanced.

Arya Brahmins

Advanced economies exempt
