(January 01, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) 2011 is expected to prove hilarious, if Attorney General indicts the wealthy head of a brothel, Nona (Madam) ‘Jeena’.
When the country is struggling to cope with the skyrocketing cost of living and unprecedented dominance of the state, Nona Jeena is a timely invention of a legal case for the masses to get sucked into the tantalising stories of brothel-hood our first class politicians solidify.
The country needs invention of events to keep the people at the bay. 2010 was special. Rounding up of lovers in the sea sides and parks and battling out with the UN and the West are part of the game.
Whist the international pressure is expected to mount in 2011, the people have to be kept busy with the local stories. Nona Jeena is the one that could help the government. Who knows, it could be on the advice of the three million pounds Bell Pottinger that is still struggling to come to terms with the reality of Sri Lanka, to build its international image for the contractual price.
Will Nona Jeena tell the court the names of our top class politicians thriving on the kudos provided by the government? Or will it be a deal with her to brutalise the opposition further?
Who knows, Nona Jeena at the end will become an appointed MP and then a Minister even providing her service officially. Sri Lanka is special. If murderers like Karuna, KP and rabblerousing Weerawanse, Mervin Silva, Champika Ranawake etc., etc. can cohabit with government why not Nona Jeena.
Whatever the outcome, the wish for the New Year is Nona Jeena must be honest and reveal all the names of her clients and the tantalising stories behind them. This is important to play down the food shortages and the widespread corruption spearheaded by the politicians and to mollycoddle the people with he help of the bloated military might.
The Mona Lisa is widely recognized as the most famous painting in the history of art. Will Nona Jeena become the most tantalising citizen of Sri Lanka?
