(December 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Brother of a Sri Lanka parliamentarian currently visiting London who wanted to maintain anonymity confirmed to the Sri Lanka Guardian that the President Mahinda Rajapakse’s government offered his brother who is a opposition United National Party MP Rs 8 million to join the government. He said, ‘If my brother wanted he could have negotiated for more and enjoyed lots of benefits and privileges’.
He further said: ‘Money, positions and permits to import vehicles were offered and many opposition parliamentarians could not resist the offer’. ‘Experienced politicians made meal out of their negotiations to join the government’ he confirmed.
