(November 15, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti and a group were allegedly attacked by a group of the pro-government in Jaffna when they went on a petition signing campaign. According to Police sources, the team led by JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti had visited Jaffna aiming to get signatures for a petition.
In addition, they had also planned to stage a protest today for people who were alleged to have been taken into custody during the War.
The team had given an interview to the Udayan newspaper at the newspaper office.
The team had then met former Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian Padmini Sidambaranadan at her residence. While they were making arrangements for the protest which was to be held today, they allegedly came under attack by group of persons.
After the incident Handunnetti has given a statement to the Jaffna Police stating that they were attacked by a group of about 15 people while they were having a discussion with former TNA Parliamentarian Sidambaranadan.
