(October 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) There had been strong rumour relating at an adverse judgment by courts hearing the appeal in Razina Nafeeks case. Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh sources however has made any announcement.
The Sri Lanka Guardian contacted the Embassy in Riyadh, however, it was not possible to get to any one. When the Minstry of External affairs was contacted, an official and gave the name of Mrs. Khan who was an in-charge of of this case, at 2473946. However, when that number was called no one answered.
Meanwhile, Mr. Basil Fernando of Asian Human Rights Commission, the Hong Kong based regional human rights organisation, when contacted stated he was not aware of any recent developments of the case. But on hearing the rumour he has written to the GOSL authorities the following fax, quoted below;
"Dear Sirs,
I am writing of behalf of the Asian Human Rights Commission who provided the lawyer's fees Rizana Nafeek's case. We have been alerted by several groups that a final decision has been given by the court which was hearing the appeal that confirmed the earlier decision of guilt and the death sentence on Rizana Nafeek. As you know there is great concern about this case and this news will upset many persons. Can you kindly confirm if this is true and if not what is the situation of the case. I hope you will respond on an urgent basis."
