(October 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Petition that was filed by the Leader of the Democratic National Alliance, Gen. Sarath Fonseka requesting to reverse the decision that was taken to cancel his parliamentary seat was taken up for hearing once again before the court of appeal today.
Deputy Solicitor General F Jameel replied to the facts presented by the petitioner today.
She stated that Military tribunals are accepted under the country’s constitution and stated that the Parliamentary membership of a person who is imprisoned for more than 6 months will be cancelled.
The Deputy Solicitor General also stated that a military tribunal can even hand over a death sentence and questioned as to how a military tribunal cannot be an accepted court.
The case will be taken up for hearing once again next Tuesday.
