"Today President Mahinda Rajapaksa is one of the most popular and sought for emerging leaders of the world community who has proved himself to be a leader with magnanimity. His meeting with all the world leaders irrespective of any previous misunderstandings created by the media is exemplary and indicates high standard of diplomacy."

(September 28, UAE, Sri Lanka Guardian) On 24th September 2010 His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka addressed the 65th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations chaired by Dr. Ali Abdullasalam Treki. His Excellency addressed on the economy of Sri Lanka which is developing fast realizing the dividends of peace. Peoples of Sri Lanka are entitled to reap the harvest of the dividends of peace obtained as a result of the dedication, commitment, vision and the hard work of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa and the team. Peoples of Sri Lanka have gone through difficult and miserable period of 30 years under most trying circumstances in the ugly and cruel hands of terrorist and terrorism. In fact our closest neighbour India and the world should be grateful to President Rajapaksa for having eradicated the most feared and ruthless terrorists in the world. Today Sri Lankans are free to move about and lead their normal lives. The Nation of Sri Lanka the neighbours, especially India and the world over should be grateful to President Rajapaksa for having eradicated most feared and ruthless terrorists in the world completely thereby Sri Lankans are free to move about and lead their normal lives. Today the economy is booming, stock market is rising, rate of per capita is increasing and investments are pouring in with the confidence of the international and business community.
‘Mahinda Chintana’ as a vehicle
Proud President Rajapaksa chose to address the assembly at this crucial moment when the world is engulfed with a number of international issues in the other parts of the world. It is to our luck that after the tsunami we have had no man made or natural disasters and we are heading for development on the vehicle ‘Mahinda Chintana’ – Vision for the future which is directed in the manifesto for the development and also future strategies on other areas such as agriculture, education, development and foreign policy.
Senior members of the UN
Sri Lanka is a very senior and a respected member of the family of nations respected by the other nations for high standards of education and diplomacy. His Excellency has become an emerging world leader having led one fourth of the globe as the past head of the SAARC Nations and currently leading a powerful group of nations as the head of G-15. President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s achievement on the victory of terrorism after the humanitarian operation is unprecedented. The world watched the winning of the humanitarian operation in the North and East saving 300,000 trapped citizens in disbelief as there was a myth that terrorism could not be crushed militarily.
Sri Lanka stable for next few hundred years
The Nation is indebted to President Rajapaksa for his achievements and stabilizing the security and the political landscape for the next few hundred decades by converting Sri Lankan Government to one of the most powerful and stable governments in Asia.
We have been a member of the United Nations of 1955 which was formed in 1945 replacing the League of Nations. Currently the UNO is the only world body for us which we must protect and use as a vehicle though there is a debate that it should be more active and democratized.
Debate for changes in the UN
His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa in his speech at the 63rd UN General Assembly on 24.09.2008 reiterated the need to democratize the United Nations which is a prime need today amidst mass killings disappearances and atrocities world wide. The world must condone carpet bombing inhuman treatment of other countries in the guise of international peace and indirect economic colonization of Nations with resources. People who rise above unreasonable atrocities are not popular among those interested parties.
Most popular and sought for President
Today President Mahinda Rajapaksa is one of the most popular and sought for emerging leaders of the world community who has proved himself to be a leader with magnanimity. His meeting with all the world leaders irrespective of any previous misunderstandings created by the media is exemplary and indicates high standard of diplomacy. He has pointed out the needs of the current changes on international humanitarian law and other procedures which are grossly inadequate and outdated. Though he has not touched on the appointment of the panel by the Secretary General who is only a mere employee of the world assembly the behaviour and the body language of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa has proved himself as the winner at the end of the deliberations.
Building Peace and healing wounds
His Excellency’s words on building lasting peace, healing of wounds, ensuring economic prosperity, granting rights of the whole nation to live in harmony, aspirations of economic development and reconciliations, constitutional changes have been taken by the colleagues in the highest spirits. As His Excellency repeatedly endorses it is time for we Sri Lankans to be in the path of development, development and development in order to achieve our target to be the wonder of Asia. The road is clear and the vision is intact and the leadership is strong, dedicated and forceful. All that is required is our cooperation, commitment and dedication until we achieve the target. The most important factor is that the family of Nations love our President and the Nation.
