(September 07, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Two JVP members Lalith Weeraraju and Kumar have been arrested by the police on the alleged charge that they attempted to break into a house in Jaffna..
Categorically denying the charge Vijitha Herath, the Member of Parliament of the JVP spoke to the Sri Lanka Guardian and said that the police in Jaffna had framed bogus charges against their members to create a fear feeling for anyone to carryout any democratic campaign in the north against the government.
"Our two members are activists among the Tamil people and they were carrying out our legitimate political campaign work against this unjust government. They were arrested early morning yesterday (5/9)and later in the evening were produced before a judge. The judge granted them 50,000 surety bail, but they are being kept under custody by the police following the order from a top figure of the government’, Mr. Vijitha Herath told the Sri Lanka Guardian.
The JVP is opposed to the proposed 18 Amendment to the Constitution to be passed in the parliament on 8th September. The JVP is strongly opposing the amendment and they are campaigning to educate the ordinary people about the dangers of passing the amendment.
